Now that summer is here, Metro Detroit farmers markets are in full swing! With unique attractions found at each market, it might be worth your time to plan trips to a few different markets so that you can find your favorite. Maybe you like the location of the market in Northwest Detroit or the live cooking demonstrations at the one in Dearborn. Whatever you’re looking for in a market, Metro Detroit has plenty to offer.

Wayne State University Farmers Market

After having taken a break last year, the Wayne State University Farmers Market is back this year, starting today! From 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. today (and every Wednesday until October 31), you can get fresh fruits and vegetables sourced from local producers. The WSU Farmers Market started with a couple of pilot days in the fall of 2008 before opening for its first full season the following year. It has become a staple of students and faculty of the University and residents of midtown.

Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market

Over on Scarsdale St., there is the Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market and it is opening for its 14th season tomorrow, June 7. This market, which will be open every Thursday from 4-8 p.m. until “early October,” houses fresh produce, eggs, local meats, baked goods and more. Opening day will see the addition of food trucks, activities for the kids and more.

Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market

If you’re looking for a high-quality market to attend on a Saturday in Oakland County, check out the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market. With different events and themes most Saturdays from May 19 through October 27, there’s something to look forward to when you plan your trip. That’s in addition to all the great, local farmers and florists from Michigan communities, like Fowlerville, South Lyon, Riga, Dexter, Whitmore Lake and more.

More than 70 stalls line the market with Michigan-made goods that include furniture, woodworking, soaps, jewelry and more. The market runs from 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. but professional gardeners will be there until noon to answer all your gardening questions.

Dearborn Farmers & Artisans Market

This Friday market runs from June through September from 2-7 p.m. and features more than just fresh produce and other food.
